Getafe's Mestanza makes dream Primera División debut in Rayo derby
Alejandro Mestanza, the Getafe B star on loan from Atlético Madrileño, made an impactful 10-minute Primera División debut, helping secure a late equaliser against Rayo Vallecano.
Getafe’s latest young talent made an instant impact on his top-flight debut, helping the Azulones snatch a dramatic derby point.
Alejandro Mestanza, the on-loan Atlético Madrileño midfielder who’s been tearing it up for Getafe’s B team, finally got his chance in the big time on Friday night. The attacking midfielder came off the bench against Rayo Vallecano and needed just 10 minutes to make his mark in Primera División.
Impact sub
Mestanza’s introduction proved inspired from Bordalás, as the debutant immediately got involved in the action. His clever movement drew the foul that would ultimately lead to Getafe’s equaliser, with Luis Milla delivering the set-piece assist for Mauro Arambarri’s 90th-minute leveller.
Talk about making an entrance! The lad’s first touch in the top flight and he’s already influencing the scoreline. Proper debut, that.
Rising through the ranks
Mestanza’s journey to La Liga hasn’t followed the traditional path. Currently on loan from Atlético Madrileño, he spent last season playing for Intercity in the Primera RFEF (Spain’s third tier).
This campaign, he’s been absolutely brilliant for Getafe’s B team under the guidance of former Getafe striker Manu del Moral:
- 16 appearances for Getafe B this season
- 7 goals scored
- 7 assists provided
Those numbers explain why Bordalás finally gave him the nod for the first-team squad.
Versatile talent
One of Mestanza’s greatest assets is his versatility across the attacking positions. While primarily an attacking midfielder, he’s comfortable operating as a winger, central midfielder, or even pushing forward as a striker when needed.
With this kind of form and a debut that’s already got the Coliseum buzzing, don’t be surprised if we see a lot more of young Mestanza in Getafe blue during the second half of the season. He’s certainly earned his chance to show what he can do at the highest level.
