Isaac Romero returns to Sevilla training ahead of Levante clash

Sevilla's Isaac Romero has recovered from illness just in time for Sunday's LaLiga fixture, but Almeyda still faces six key absences for the Levante match.

Sevilla receive a timely boost as local lad Isaac Romero rejoins training following his recovery from a fever, potentially making him available for Sunday’s home fixture against Levante.

Romero returns as injury list grows

The Nervión outfit completed their sixth and final training session at Ciudad Deportiva José Ramón Cisneros Palacios on Saturday morning, with the welcome sight of Lebrijano forward Romero back among the squad. The young striker had been suffering from a fever but appears to have shaken it off just in time to give manager Matías Almeyda another option up top for the weekend.

Six absentees confirmed

Despite Romero’s return, Sevilla are still facing a proper mare with six players unavailable for their first league match after the break:

  • Alfon - Out 3-5 weeks with a left soleus injury
  • Gabriel Suazo - Suffering from the same soleus problem
  • Rubén Vargas - In final phase of recovery, with Almeyda noting yesterday the Swiss attacker is “very important” but they won’t rush him back
  • Marcao - Six-match ban upheld by Appeals Committee, won’t return until matchday 14 against Alavés
  • Chidera Ejuke - On international duty with Nigeria at AFCON
  • Akor Adams - Also with Nigeria, facing Mozambique in the last-16 on Monday

Match details

Almeyda will announce his squad list later today, with the players then entering a pre-match concentration ahead of Sunday’s fixture.

The LaLiga clash between Sevilla and Levante kicks off at 14:00 local time at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, with the hosts looking to build momentum in the second half of the season despite their selection headaches.
