Valencia fans confront Corberán and players at airport after Celta thrashing

Around 200 angry Valencia supporters greeted the team at Manises Airport following their 4-1 defeat to Celta Vigo, with chants calling for the manager's resignation.

A toxic reception awaited Valencia’s players and manager Carlos Corberán as they returned home following another disastrous away day that leaves them teetering on the edge of the relegation zone.

Airport Ambush

Approximately 200 furious Valencia supporters gathered at Manises Airport to confront the team after their 4-1 hammering at Celta Vigo. The defeat could see Los Che drop into the relegation places if Girona manage even a point against Mallorca on Sunday.

The atmosphere turned particularly nasty with fans chanting “Corberán, resign!” and “You don’t deserve this shirt!” – familiar refrains that have been echoing around Mestalla in recent weeks.

What started as a gathering at the main terminal quickly transformed into something resembling a protest march when fans discovered the team was arriving at a private terminal instead. The situation became serious enough that National Police units were deployed to cordon off the restricted area as supporters approached.

Crisis Deepening

This latest defeat represents Valencia’s second-worst thrashing of the season (only bettered – or worsened, depending on how you look at it – by Barcelona’s 6-0 demolition job earlier in the campaign). The team’s record makes for proper dog’s dinner reading:

  • Just three wins from 18 league matches
  • Approaching the same dire form that saw Rubén Baraja sacked last year
  • Corberán himself described their statistics as “dangerous numbers” in his post-match press conference

Transfer Talk

Despite the evident crisis, Valencia CEO Ron Gourlay maintained an oddly positive tone before the match, describing the current squad as “powerful” while speaking to DAZN. The Scottish executive did acknowledge the club is active in the January window: “We want to add certain players to this squad and we’re currently evaluating that.”

For Valencia supporters, any reinforcements can’t come soon enough as their beloved club continues to struggle under Peter Lim’s ownership. The situation is looking increasingly desperate, and patience with both players and management is wearing dangerously thin.
