Getafe facing severe squad crisis ahead of Real Sociedad clash

Bordalás' side could be down to just 14 first-team players for Friday's match after three more absences following the Vallecas derby defeat.

Getafe are staring down the barrel of a proper selection nightmare as they prepare to welcome Real Sociedad to the Coliseum on Friday night.

Injury crisis deepens after Vallecas

The Azulones were already stretched thin heading into their Madrid derby against Rayo Vallecas, missing four players through injury - Davinchi, Borja Mayoral, Abdel Abqar and Abu Kamara. But things have gone from bad to worse for José Bordalás, with three more names potentially added to the absentee list.

Mario Martín was forced off during the Vallecas clash when he simply couldn’t continue. The versatile midfielder’s pained expressions on the bench afterwards suggest he’s a major doubt for the Real Sociedad fixture.

Centre-back catastrophe

Most concerning for Bordalás is the complete decimation of his central defensive options. Both Djené Dakonam and Domingos Duarte picked up their fifth yellow cards of the season, triggering automatic suspensions for the upcoming match.

With Abqar already sidelined through injury, Getafe currently have zero available centre-backs for Friday’s clash against the Basque side. It’s proper Bobby Moore and apples sauce territory for the gaffer, who’ll need to get creative with his defensive setup.

Skeleton squad

As things stand, Getafe could be down to just 14 first-team players (only 12 outfield) for the visit of La Real. Bordalás will be desperately hoping for positive developments regarding Mario, Kamara or Abdel, though all three currently look unlikely to feature.

The timing couldn’t be worse for Getafe as they face a Real Sociedad side known for their technical quality and attacking threats. How Bordalás cobbles together a functioning defensive unit from his limited resources will be fascinating to watch.
