Gudelj admits Sevilla deserve fan fury after Levante embarrassment

Sevilla's captain fronts up after shocking 0-3 home defeat to newly-promoted Levante, acknowledging supporters' right to be fuming with their dismal start to 2026.

Sevilla’s nightmare start to 2026 leaves captain Nemanja Gudelj facing the music as fans voice their displeasure at Nervión.

New Year, Same Problems

Well, that wasn’t in the script, was it? Sevilla have kicked off the new year in the worst possible fashion, getting absolutely battered at home by newly-promoted Levante. The visitors ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, leaving the home support absolutely fuming.

Iker Losada got the ball rolling just before half-time, before Carlos Espí and Carlos Álvarez put the result beyond doubt after the break. It was proper dog’s dinner of a performance from the hosts, who looked well off the pace throughout.

Captain Fronts Up

To his credit, captain Nemanja Gudelj didn’t hide after the final whistle. The Serbian defender faced the cameras and held his hands up about the dire display.

“It hurts a lot. We wanted to start the year with three points and instead we lose our first home game 0-3 against Levante,” Gudelj admitted to Movistar Plus+.

The skipper highlighted the clinical edge of the visitors as the key difference: “They were very effective with the opportunities they had, and we missed all of ours. We started poorly and cold, and we can’t concede that goal right before half-time.”

Home Form Headache

Sevilla’s struggles at the Pizjuán continue to be a major concern. What should be a fortress has become something of a charity shop, giving away points for free to all and sundry.

Gudelj acknowledged this troubling pattern: “We’re having difficulties at home. We need to concentrate, have confidence, and convert the chances we create, which aren’t many in LaLiga.”

Fan Fury Justified

The Sevilla faithful made their feelings crystal clear at the final whistle, with boos and whistles ringing around Nervión. And Gudelj wasn’t about to argue with their assessment.

In perhaps the most telling comment of the day, he said: “If you lose 0-3 at home against Levante, with all due respect, it’s normal for people to be angry.”

With several players missing, Sevilla looked a shadow of themselves, but Gudelj refused to use that as an excuse: “It’s normal that we notice missing players, everyone wants the team at full strength, but we have to compete with those who are available.”

The defeat leaves Sevilla looking over their shoulder rather than up the table as 2026 begins. Garcia Pimienta has some serious work to do to turn this ship around before things get even more dicey.
