Almería swoops for Huesca skipper Jorge Pulido in savvy free transfer
Veteran defender Jorge Pulido set to join promotion-chasing Almería in the summer after nine years as Huesca captain, with over 300 appearances for the Aragonese club.
Jorge Pulido’s nine-year stint at SD Huesca is coming to an end, with the club captain agreeing terms with promotion-chasing UD Almería for a summer move.
Captain’s departure
The 34-year-old centre-back, a proper Huesca legend with over 300 appearances for the Aragonese side, has been at the heart of transfer speculation for days. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed what many feared - Pulido has reached an agreement with Almería.
The veteran defender’s contract expires this summer, and despite being the absolute bread and butter of Huesca’s backline for nearly a decade, he’ll be taking his talents south to Andalusia.
Summer move likely
While there were whispers about a potential January switch, all signs point to Pulido seeing out the current campaign at El Alcoraz. He’s committed to helping Huesca in their relegation dogfight before departing - showing the class act he’s always been for the club.
It’s understood Pulido will pen a two-year deal with Almería, which could potentially be the last stop in his distinguished career. For Almería, currently in the mixer for promotion to La Liga, landing a defender with Pulido’s experience on a free transfer is a proper result.
Huesca planning ahead
Meanwhile, Huesca’s sporting director Ángel Martín González isn’t hanging about. He’s already scouring the market for reinforcements to bolster their survival bid and prepare for life after their captain’s departure.
Pulido will be desperate to leave on a high, securing Huesca’s Segunda División status before bidding farewell to the fans who’ve adored him for nearly a decade.
