Huesca's Away Day Blues Return in Castellón Nightmare

SD Huesca's brief resurgence on the road came to a crashing halt with a heavy defeat at Castalia, leaving Bolo's men just one point above the drop zone.

Bolo’s promising away form revival with Huesca has come to a screeching halt after a proper hammering at Castellón’s Castalia stadium. Any progress made in recent weeks was quickly forgotten in what the gaffer himself called his “worst first half” since taking charge.

Back to Square One on the Road

When Bolo first grabbed the reins at Huesca, they were absolute dog’s dinner away from home - one of Segunda División’s worst travellers. His debut even brought another defeat at Zaragoza. Things had seemed to turn a corner recently though:

  • A hard-earned point at Almería
  • Copa del Rey victory at Racing Ferrol
  • League win at Cultural Leonesa

But this trip to Castellón was meant to be the real litmus test of their improvement - and blimey, they failed it spectacularly.

Castalia Catastrophe

The match against one of Segunda’s most in-form sides was effectively over by half-time. Even Enrich’s goal and a red card for the hosts couldn’t inject any drama into proceedings, as Castellón quickly responded with a fourth goal to kill off any hopes of a comeback.

Huesca looked completely out of their depth for most of the match, making it a New Year’s nightmare rather than the fresh start they’d hoped for.

Bolo’s Brutal Assessment

The manager didn’t mince his words post-match, taking responsibility while highlighting the team’s inconsistency: “We made mistakes, me first. We had a match plan and we didn’t implement it practically at any point.”

Relegation Worries Mount

This defeat leaves Huesca teetering just one point above the relegation zone, with in-form Córdoba up next at El Alcoraz. Talk about a proper banana skin of a fixture when you’re desperate for points.

Meanwhile, captain Jorge Pulido’s future hangs in the balance with Almería pushing hard to secure his signature immediately. The club faces a tough decision on whether to cash in or keep their skipper for the relegation scrap ahead.

The away day blues are back with a vengeance for the Aragonese side - not what the doctor ordered for 2024.
