Ipurua proving a lifeline for struggling Eibar in relegation scrap

Back-to-back home wins over the festive period have given Eibar a much-needed boost after their autumn slump, but away form remains a critical concern.

Eibar’s Christmas wish for home comforts has been granted as the Basque outfit finally string together consecutive victories to ease relegation fears.

Festive cheer at Ipurua

The fixture computer did Eibar a proper favour this holiday season, serving up back-to-back home matches that straddled the New Year. With the team in desperate need of points to escape the drop zone, the armeros made the most of their Ipurua advantage with six crucial points against Real Valladolid and Mirandés.

These consecutive victories mark their first winning streak of the season – a welcome tonic after that nightmare run between October and November when they were dropping faster than prices in the January sales.

Mirandés comeback shows character

Friday’s clash with Mirandés wasn’t exactly champagne football from the off. The hosts looked proper sluggish in the first half, miles off the performance levels they’d shown against Valladolid on December 19th.

But whatever manager San José said at half-time did the business. Eibar emerged transformed after the break, turning around a deficit for just the second time this campaign. The comeback victory has injected some much-needed belief into the squad as they kick off 2026.

Away day blues need sorting

While Ipurua has become something of a fortress lately, Eibar’s away form remains absolutely diabolical. The team hasn’t managed a single victory on their travels this season – a proper mare that needs addressing sharpish.

Their next two fixtures take them on the road to Burgos and Granada, presenting the perfect opportunity to finally break this away curse. Relying solely on home form to avoid the drop is a mug’s game in the cutthroat world of Segunda División.

The gaffer knows they can’t put all their eggs in one basket by depending exclusively on Ipurua results. If they’re to climb the table properly, those away day blues need sorting – and these upcoming matches offer the perfect chance to turn the corner.
