Paraschiv heads back to Romania as Oviedo loan striker to Rapid Bucharest

Romanian forward Daniel Paraschiv leaves Real Oviedo for Rapid Bucharest on loan with option to buy after struggling for minutes in Spain's second tier.

Real Oviedo’s Romanian striker packs his bags for a homecoming after failing to make his mark in Spanish football, with Rapid Bucharest securing a loan deal until the end of the season with a purchase option included.

Spanish struggles

Paraschiv’s Spanish adventure hasn’t quite gone according to plan since his arrival at the Tartiere. Despite being a boardroom-backed signing – with Jesús Martínez particularly keen – the Romanian forward struggled for consistent minutes:

  • Just 28 La Liga appearances totalling under 600 minutes
  • A modest return of 3 goals and 1 assist in the league
  • Brief flashes of quality, including a crucial playoff contribution against Almería
  • 31 total appearances across all competitions for Oviedo, managing 773 minutes

The striker did have his moments in Oviedo’s promotion campaign, earning a starting spot in the playoff final first leg at Anduva, but couldn’t nail down a regular place in the team.

Cultural disappointment

Following Oviedo’s promotion to the top flight, Paraschiv found himself surplus to requirements and was shipped out on loan to Cultural Leonesa. The move to the Segunda División side didn’t provide the fresh start he needed:

  • Limited to just 7 league appearances and roughly 200 minutes
  • Failed to establish himself under either Raúl Llona or José Ángel Ziganda
  • Managed his only goal of the season in Copa del Rey action against Tropezón

Romanian return

Now Paraschiv heads back to familiar territory, joining Rapid Bucharest where he’ll work under Constantin Galca – a coach with significant Spanish football experience. The timing could be perfect for both parties:

  • Rapid are just one point behind league leaders Universidad de Craiova
  • The Bucharest club are in need of firepower for their title push
  • Paraschiv aims to rediscover the form that saw him bag 31 goals in 95 appearances for Hermannstadt before his move to Spain

For Oviedo, the inclusion of a purchase option offers the chance to recoup some of their investment in a player who never quite found his feet in Spanish football.
