Getafe on the verge of double swoop for Chimy Ávila and Dani Rodríguez
Bordalás pushing for reinforcements as Getafe reach agreements with both players, awaiting final LaLiga approval before making transfers official.
Getafe are closing in on a double January signing as José Bordalás desperately seeks reinforcements for his thin squad heading into the business end of the season.
Done deals pending approval
According to transfer specialist Matteo Moretto on Radio MARCA’s ‘La Pizarra’ program, the Madrid-based club has reached agreements with both Chimy Ávila and Dani Rodríguez, with only formalities remaining before the deals can be completed.
“They have both deals closed with Getafe,” Moretto revealed on air. The transfers now await LaLiga’s official green light for registration, with Ávila’s move from Real Betis requiring some additional details to be sorted, while Rodríguez’s transfer simply needs registration approval.
Defensive crisis prompting action
Bordalás isn’t stopping at these two signings, however. The Azulones are facing a proper defensive nightmare ahead of their clash with Real Sociedad, where they’ll be without:
- Abqar (injured)
- Djene (suspended)
- Duarte (suspended)
This leaves Getafe without a single specialist centre-back for the match, explaining why a central defender remains high on their shopping list alongside another striker with a different profile to Chimy Ávila.
Bordalás pushing for depth
The gaffer has been crystal clear that his current squad lacks the depth needed to compete properly for the remainder of the campaign. These signings represent the club backing their manager’s assessment, with Getafe looking to avoid getting caught short during the second half of the season.
If they can get these deals over the line, it’ll be a proper result for a club that typically has to box clever in the transfer market. The Chimy deal in particular would be a bit of a coup given his experience and eye for goal.
