Mirandés set for winter market revolution with seven new signings to escape relegation
The Segunda División's bottom club plan a major squad overhaul in January to address structural weaknesses, with reinforcements needed in all areas.
CD Mirandés are preparing for a complete winter overhaul as they desperately try to climb off the bottom of Spain’s Segunda División.
The rojillos aren’t messing about this January, with club officials confirming they’re looking at bringing in six or seven new faces to rescue their sinking season. It’s proper squeaky bum time at Anduva.
Wholesale changes on the horizon
Mirandés’ first half of the season has been an absolute nightmare, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table with glaring weaknesses throughout the squad. The long-term injury to Pablo López has freed up an additional registration spot, with the club currently carrying 23 players - two below the maximum allowed.
The transfer activity won’t come cheap, but appears necessary for survival:
- All areas of the pitch targeted for reinforcement
- Right-back position identified as particularly urgent due to Hugo Novoa’s persistent injury problems
- Tamarit has been filling in but isn’t a natural in the position
- Any incomings likely dependent on players heading for the exit door
Record budget but careful planning required
Despite operating with their highest-ever budget of €8 million for the first team this season, sporting directors will need to be careful with their accounting. The club must balance their winter business to stay within salary cap restrictions while making the necessary improvements.
Early transfer targets emerging
The rumour mill is already in full swing, with several names being linked:
- Dani Pérez, midfielder (Real Betis)
- Mikel Goti, forward (Real Sociedad)
- Jorge Cabello, central defender (Levante)
However, the club hasn’t confirmed negotiations with any specific targets yet. What’s clear is that manager Jesús Galván knows his team needs serious strengthening to have any chance of staying up.
The next few weeks will be absolutely crucial for Mirandés’ season. Talk about throwing the kitchen sink at a relegation battle - this lot are ready to chuck the whole bloomin’ house at it.
