Almería's Selvi Clua heads to Mirandés on loan deal until season end
The 20-year-old midfielder becomes Almería's first winter window departure, joining Segunda División side Mirandés on loan after struggling for minutes under Rubi.
Young Almería midfielder ships out to Mirandés as winter window kicks into gear
UD Almería have made their first official move of the January transfer window, but it’s an outgoing rather than incoming deal. Selvi Clua, their 20-year-old midfielder, has packed his bags and headed to CD Mirandés on loan until the end of the current campaign.
Limited opportunities force move
The young Tarragona-born talent found himself well down the pecking order under manager Rubi this season. Despite having a long-term contract with Almería running until 2030, Clua has struggled to get a proper look-in at the club.
In fact, he was the second-least used midfielder in the squad, with only the frozen-out Robertone seeing less action. The gaffer clearly fancied other options, with Lopy, Gui Guedes, Dzodic, Baba and André Horta all ahead of him in the queue for minutes.
A short Almería story so far
Clua’s Almería journey has been relatively brief:
- Joined from Girona almost exactly a year ago in last winter’s transfer window
- Made 11 league appearances last season plus one in the promotion play-offs
- This campaign: 8 league matches (2 starts, 6 from the bench)
- Also featured in both Copa del Rey ties against Lorca and Eldense
Fresh start in Segunda División
The loan deal, finalised on Wednesday afternoon, will see Mirandés cover the player’s wages for the remainder of the season. The move makes perfect sense for all parties - Almería trim their squad, Mirandés get a talented young midfielder, and most importantly, Clua gets the chance for regular football in the “Hypermotion” Segunda División.
For a youngster with a contract running until 2030, getting regular minutes is absolutely crucial for his development. This loan spell could be just what the doctor ordered to get his career back on track.
