Pastor pens new Málaga deal until 2028 as injury recovery continues
Málaga CF have extended centre-back Álex Pastor's contract until 2028, showing faith in the defender as he recovers from a serious injury suffered in August.
Málaga CF have shown tremendous faith in defender Álex Pastor, extending his contract until 2028 despite the centre-back currently working his way back from a serious injury suffered in August.
Long-term commitment
The contract extension, which runs until 30th June 2028, had been previously hinted at by sporting director Loren Juarros, who described it as a gesture of “class” from the club. It’s a proper show of loyalty to a player who’s going through the mill with his recovery.
Pastor arrived at Málaga for the 2024-25 season from Andorra and quickly established himself as a key figure in the defence. He made 31 appearances in Segunda División (28 as a starter, racking up 2,436 minutes) plus one Copa del Rey match in his debut campaign. Unfortunately, the current 2025-26 season has seen him limited to just two league appearances before his injury setback.
Road to recovery
The defender is making steady progress in his rehabilitation, working daily at La Rosaleda under the supervision of the first team’s medical services. He’s now approaching the final stages of his recovery process.
“I’m at the phase where I’ll likely be running on the pitch in a few weeks,” Pastor explained. He ditched the crutches about a month ago and is now focusing on rebuilding muscle and balancing strength in both legs before progressing to more demanding exercises.
The bread and butter of his current routine involves:
- Extensive treatment table work with physiotherapists
- Strength training focused on his injured leg
- Preparing for more advanced rehabilitation like running and ball work
Pastor is taking a patient approach to his comeback, prioritising a complete recovery over rushing his return. “What I prioritise right now is feeling good and coming back in the best possible condition,” he added.
Team spirit high
Despite being sidelined, Pastor remains enthusiastic about the team’s current form and atmosphere at La Rosaleda. He praised the tactical understanding shown by his teammates and the unity within the squad, highlighting how both starters and substitutes are fully committed.
After Málaga’s impressive win at El Molinón, Pastor is buzzing for the team’s first match of 2026, which will close out the first half of the season. He’s calling for fans to create a proper atmosphere as the team looks to start the new year on the front foot.
For a player in his boat, the contract extension represents not just job security but a massive vote of confidence from the club that they believe he’ll return to his best. As they say in the East End, Pastor will be hoping to get back on his plates of meat sooner rather than later.
