Ramón Martínez joins Valladolid: 'Hard graft got me here'
Former Sevilla man Ramón Martínez completes Valladolid move, with sporting director Víctor Orta revealing more transfer plans and an imminent departure.
Real Valladolid have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of Ramón Martínez from Sevilla, as the player completed his first training session under manager Luis García Tevenet before being unveiled to the media.
Why Valladolid?
Martínez, who’s signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Pucela outfit, was crystal clear about his reasons for making the switch:
“It’s a historic club, they showed confidence in me from the start, and I believe we’ve got a quality squad,” explained the defender, who reportedly had numerous other suitors in LaLiga Hypermotion.
“This was a step I needed to take and I’ll try to adapt as quickly as possible. Hard graft got me here,” he added, showing the kind of work ethic that Valladolid supporters will be hoping translates onto the pitch.
The former Sevilla man seems chuffed with his initial impressions of the club, noting: “Víctor Orta spoke very highly of the place before I arrived, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised – I’ve seen a really united group.” He’s even ready for immediate action, stating he’ll play this Sunday if the gaffer gives him the nod.
Orta’s transfer masterplan
Sporting director Víctor Orta also fronted up to the press, revealing that Martínez had chosen Valladolid despite having “10 or 12 offers” from other LaLiga Hypermotion clubs. Bit of a coup for the Blanquivioletas, that.
With Martínez becoming their second January signing, Orta outlined the rest of his transfer strategy:
- A left-back to cover for the seriously injured Guille Bueno
- A winger
- Another striker
“We have limited resources, but we can invest in players,” Orta explained, showing he’s not just whistling Dixie in the transfer market.
Squad movements
With all first-team slots currently filled, Orta dropped a bit of transfer news, announcing that one first-team player is currently deciding on his next destination, with a departure expected within the next couple of weeks.
On the contract front, things are looking positive:
- Garriel’s renewal is verbally agreed
- Negotiations with David Torres are progressing well
- They have a clear plan for Maroto
Looks like Valladolid aren’t hanging about this January – they’re getting their business done early doors.
