Espanyol cut Koleosho loan short as winger heads to Paris FC
Luca Koleosho's disappointing return to Espanyol ends prematurely, with the Italian international now joining Paris FC on loan from Burnley for the remainder of the season.
The January transfer window is heating up at Espanyol with another player heading for the exit door just a day after Javi Hernández’s loan move to Mirandés was confirmed.
Koleosho’s homecoming nightmare
Luca Koleosho’s emotional return to Espanyol has come to an abrupt end after the club decided to terminate his loan from Burnley. The 21-year-old winger, who came through the Espanyol academy at the Dani Jarque training complex, has struggled for game time in what has been a proper disappointment for all parties involved.
The Italian international’s homecoming generated plenty of excitement among the Espanyol faithful when he arrived last summer, but it’s fair to say it’s been a right old disaster. Koleosho managed just 60 minutes of La Liga action under manager Manolo González this season - his last appearance coming three months ago against Real Betis at the RCDE Stadium.
Paris bound with a twist
Koleosho won’t be heading back to Burnley just yet. Instead, the American-born winger will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Paris FC, with the French side securing an option to make the move permanent should they fancy keeping him beyond the summer.
Espanyol’s January clear-out
The Pericos are having a proper clear-out this January:
- Javi Hernández → Mirandés (loan)
- Luca Koleosho → Paris FC (loan from Burnley)
- Antoniu Roca → Expected to join Las Palmas under Luis García
Of all the summer reinforcements, Koleosho stands out as the only one who failed to make any meaningful impact. For a player once considered one of the brightest prospects to emerge from the club’s academy, it’s a shame his return to Barcelona turned out to be such a non-starter.
