Getafe hit rock bottom as late Real Sociedad winner deepens crisis

Bordalás' depleted squad suffers crushing defeat with four Getafe B players called up amid injury crisis and a worrying run of just one point from 18.

A devastating last-gasp defeat to Real Sociedad has left Getafe in dire straits, with José Bordalás’ men now collecting just a solitary point from their last six matches.

Crisis deepens at Coliseum

The Azulones are having a proper mare at the moment. Already dealing with a squad thinner than my wallet after payday, they’ve now suffered another psychological blow with this defeat against La Real.

After going behind to a Brais Méndez opener, Getafe showed some proper bottle to level things up near the death through debutant Juanmi, sending the home crowd absolutely barmy. The new signing’s first LaLiga goal in blue had the Coliseum believing they’d nicked a precious point.

But football’s a cruel mistress, innit? In the final action of the match, Aramburu converted from a set-piece to leave Getafe utterly devastated and rooted to their miserable run of form.

Youth to the rescue

Bordalás has been forced to dip into the reserves with his first-team squad down to the bare bones:

  • Four Getafe B players featured against Real Sociedad
  • Alejandro Mestanza started and impressed before being subbed at half-time
  • Isma Bekhoucha, Joselu Pérez and Jorge Montes all came off the bench

The kids from Manu del Moral’s B team were called up due to an injury crisis that’s left Getafe without several key players:

  • Djené and Domingos Duarte missing in defence
  • Abdel Abqar unavailable
  • Top scorer Borja Mayoral sidelined
  • Davinchi also out of action

Transfer window hopes

With the January window now open, Bordalás will be praying the club brass sort him out with some reinforcements sharpish. The gaffer’s made it clear he needs bodies through the door, and based on this showing, he ain’t telling porkies.

Getafe’s situation is becoming increasingly desperate, and without fresh blood, they could be in for a proper dog and bone in the relegation scrap as the season progresses.
