Mallorca's winter window focus: Kalumba plus more wing wizards?
RCD Mallorca have locked in Justin Kalumba for summer, but might fast-track his arrival while eyeing additional wingers including Girona's Yáser Asprilla.
Mallorca are going all out for wide reinforcements this January, with at least one new winger firmly in their sights - and potentially more on the shopping list.
Kalumba deal locked in
The Balearic club have already secured Justin Kalumba from Angers for the summer transfer window, but Son Moix executives are now exploring whether they can bring the 21-year-old French talent to the island this winter instead.
Kalumba profiles as a left-footed winger comfortable on either flank, though Mallorca envision deploying him primarily on his “wrong” side - essentially a left-footed version of Jan Virgili. The youngster would inject some much-needed pace and directness into Mallorca’s attack.
More wing options being explored
Interestingly, landing Kalumba wouldn’t necessarily close the door on additional wide reinforcements. According to MARCA’s sources, Mallorca view the Frenchman as a long-term project (though immediate contributions wouldn’t be unwelcome), while they’re simultaneously targeting wingers who could make an instant impact.
One such target is Colombian talent Yáser Asprilla from Girona. Mallorca’s brass are keen, but prising him away won’t be straightforward for two key reasons:
- He’s Girona’s record signing at €18 million
- The Catalans would be strengthening a direct rival
Llabrés situation complicates matters
The third piece in this wing puzzle involves homegrown talent Javi Llabrés. The Binissalem native’s contract expires in June, and while renewal was previously considered, the club now appears to favor a January departure.
However, any move requires agreement from all parties, making it a potentially tricky situation to resolve.
The coming weeks will determine whether Mallorca end up with just Kalumba, or if they’ll secure additional wide options to bolster their attacking threat. Either way, it’s clear where their transfer priorities lie - it’s wingers or bust for the islanders this January.
