Neyou eyeing Getafe exit as January window heats up
The Cameroonian midfielder could be on his way out of the Coliseum after struggling for minutes, with several La Liga clubs already making enquiries.
Getafe’s summer signing Yvan Neyou could be heading for the exit door this January after failing to nail down regular playing time at the Azulones.
From Pepinero hero to Getafe bench
The Cameroonian midfielder arrived at the Coliseum with high expectations after playing a crucial role in Leganés’ promotion campaign last season. Despite Leganés ultimately facing the drop, Neyou’s performances in La Liga were one of the few bright spots for the Pepineros.
However, his Getafe career hasn’t gone according to the script. A combination of factors has limited his impact:
- A minor injury setback during the season
- Financial Fair Play registration issues that delayed his integration
- The impressive form of midfield trio Milla, Arambarri and Mario Martín
All this has resulted in Neyou seeing far less action than both he and the club anticipated when he joined on a free transfer.
La Liga suitors circling
The situation hasn’t gone unnoticed around Spain, with several La Liga clubs already making enquiries about Neyou’s availability. These include teams that had previously shown interest during the summer window.
While the player himself is reportedly open to a move that would benefit all parties, the finances make a permanent transfer unlikely at this stage. Instead, a loan deal where the receiving club covers a significant portion of his wages appears the most viable solution.
Financial breathing room
For Getafe, Neyou’s departure would free up valuable salary space, potentially allowing the club to strengthen in other areas. The Azulones are actively working in the market to bring in reinforcements, but need to create room within their wage structure first.
With the window still young, there’s plenty of time for negotiations, but shifting players mid-season is rarely straightforward. As the old dog and bone goes in transfer circles, it’s all about finding the right deal at the right time.
