Racing's Yeray Cabanzón ships off to Andorra on loan with purchase option
The promising Cantabrian youngster joins Andorra FC on loan after limited minutes at Racing Santander, despite impressing in pre-season.
Racing Santander continue their winter window shake-up with youngster Yeray Cabanzón heading to Andorra FC on loan until the end of the season, with the Pyrenees outfit securing a purchase option as part of the deal.
Limited opportunities despite pre-season promise
Cabanzón’s move comes as little surprise to those following Racing’s squad management this season. Despite being one of the standout performers during pre-season training, the Cantabrian academy product has barely had a sniff under manager José Alberto López:
- Just 13 appearances across all competitions
- A measly 150 minutes of playing time
- Two goals to his name - both coming in Copa del Rey matches
Interestingly, Andorra had already shown their hand last summer with an approach for the player, but Racing held onto him following his impressive pre-season showings. Seems the gaffer never quite fancied him after all, and now the lad’s off for some proper minutes elsewhere.
Racing’s winter window business
The Santander outfit are having themselves a proper January clear-out. Cabanzón becomes the third player to leave the club this winter after:
- Jeremy de León
- Vladislav Andreev
Meanwhile, they’ve strengthened with two arrivals:
- Damián Rodríguez
- Georgian talent Guliashvili
Word on the street is Racing aren’t done yet. The club is expected to shift another midfielder while targeting a goalkeeper and potentially another attacking option before the window slams shut.
For Cabanzón, it’s a chance to prove his worth at an Andorra side looking to bolster their Segunda División campaign. If he hits the ground running, don’t be surprised if that purchase option comes into play quicker than you can say “Adam and Eve it”.
