Sadiq returns to Valencia: 'Corberán can get the best out of me'
Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq makes his long-awaited return to Mestalla after a successful loan spell last season, signing until 2028 as Valencia battle relegation.
Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq has finally sealed his return to Valencia CF, four months after the club’s initial summer approach fell short. The forward, who impressed during a loan spell last season with six goals in 19 appearances, has now signed permanently until 2028.
Love affair with Mestalla
Speaking at his presentation at the Paterna training complex alongside CEO Ron Gourlay, Sadiq made it clear that his heart had remained in Valencia since his departure.
“I’m very happy to return here. It’s a pleasure to represent Valencia again,” the Nigerian explained. “Since last year when I was here, I’ve felt at home and that’s what motivated me to come back.”
The striker revealed he’s been keeping close tabs on his former teammates during his absence: “I’ve watched almost all their matches when I had free time.”
Relegation rescue mission
Sadiq returns to a club in desperate need of firepower, with Valencia currently languishing in the relegation zone. He’s wasted no time declaring himself ready for action:
- Selected the number 6 shirt (with number 2 being the only other available option)
- Confirmed he’s “physically ready to play” against Elche
- Emphasized team success over personal goal tallies
“The most important thing isn’t how many goals I can score but how I can help the team day by day,” Sadiq stated. “What matters most is helping the team and getting Valencia back where they belong.”
The Corberán connection
One key factor in Sadiq’s return appears to be his relationship with manager Carlos Corberán, who was keen to reunite with the striker after their productive collaboration last season.
When asked what makes Corberán special compared to other managers, Sadiq was effusive: “Corberán is a manager who can get the best out of me. Last year I couldn’t give everything, but he trusted me.”
Though Valencia’s summer approach to Real Sociedad was insufficient, with the club perhaps hoping Sadiq’s desire to return would force the issue, persistence has finally paid off. Both parties appear delighted that this transfer saga has reached its happy conclusion.
