Sevilla keeping tabs on Everton outcast Patterson as transfer dance continues
The Andalusian club revisits summer interest in Scottish right-back Nathan Patterson, who's desperate for minutes ahead of the World Cup and could be part of a wider transfer shuffle.
Sevilla are once again sniffing around Everton’s Nathan Patterson as the January transfer merry-go-round kicks into gear at the Nervión club.
Sevilla’s transfer juggling act
The Andalusian outfit has already shifted Álvaro Fernández and Ramón Martínez out the door, but that’s just the appetizer in what promises to be a proper feast of transfer activity. The club’s bean counters are desperate for around €10 million in plusvalías (capital gains) to sort out their financial troubles.
Several names are in the shop window at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán:
- Juanlu Sánchez
- José Ángel Carmona
- Lucien Agoumé
- Rubén Vargas
- Isaac Romero
While sporting director Antonio Cordón is busy plotting potential departures, he’s simultaneously hunting for replacements.
The Scottish connection
According to Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas, Sevilla haven’t given up their pursuit of Patterson, having first inquired about the Scottish right-back last August. The 24-year-old has barely had a sniff at Everton this season, making just four appearances across all competitions.
In a twist that would make your average football transfer novel proud, Everton are apparently keen on strengthening their right flank and might fancy a punt on Sevilla’s own Juanlu. Talk about a potential swap deal in the making!
David Moyes wouldn’t stand in the way of his compatriot leaving on loan, especially since Patterson is desperate for regular football to cement his place in Scotland’s World Cup squad. However, any move would likely happen in the final days of the window, with several Toffees players currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Career stalled in Liverpool
Patterson’s time at Goodison has been a bit of a mare since his £14 million move from Rangers in 2022. His market value has dropped to around €10 million, with injuries playing havoc with his development. This season alone, he’s missed eight matches with a muscle problem and another four with a hernia.
The Scot, who has 23 international caps to his name, has managed 63 appearances for Everton’s first team, contributing three assists. His contract runs for another 18 months.
Sevilla aren’t the only club keeping an eye on him though – both Lazio and Bologna have also expressed interest in the full-back whose career has hit the buffers in Merseyside.
