Betis aim to bounce back against rock-bottom Oviedo at Carlos Tartiere
Pellegrini's men target European push while Almada's struggling Asturians desperately need points to escape the relegation zone in Saturday's La Liga clash.
Bottom-placed Oviedo host European-chasing Betis in a clash between two sides with vastly different ambitions as La Liga’s first half of the season concludes.
Relegation vs European ambitions
It’s a proper game of two halves this one - not on the pitch, but in the table. Uruguayan gaffer Guillermo Almada’s Oviedo are proper struggling at the foot of the table, sitting rock bottom with just 12 points to their name. They’re six points from safety and desperate for a result at the Carlos Tartiere.
Betis, meanwhile, are having a right different season under Manuel Pellegrini. The Andalusians occupy 6th spot with 28 points and despite taking a bit of a hammering at the Bernabeu to start 2026, they’ve been in decent nick across all competitions.
Team news
The visitors will have to make do without three key players for this Saturday afternoon clash:
- Amrabat
- Isco
- Abde
Despite these absences, Pellegrini’s men will fancy their chances against the division’s worst team. If they can grab all three points, they’ll hit the 30-point mark at the halfway stage - putting them on course for European football for the sixth straight season. Not too shabby, that.
Oviedo showing fight
While they’re bottom of the pile, Oviedo aren’t completely down and out. They managed a point at Mendizorroza last weekend, which left a bit of a bittersweet taste after they’d gone ahead. That draw was their fourth in six matches - not enough to escape the drop zone, but enough to keep them in touching distance.
Almada will know that draws alone won’t cut the mustard. At some point, they need to start turning one point into three if they’re to have any chance of preserving their top-flight status.
Match details
The game kicks off at 14:00 local time on Saturday, 10th January 2026 at the Carlos Tartiere stadium. For Betis, it’s a chance to get back to winning ways after that Bernabeu defeat. For Oviedo, it’s another opportunity to start climbing out of the relegation mire.
