Budimir blows his top over Osasuna's shooting stats: 'Not even on target, myself included'

Osasuna striker vents frustration after Girona defeat despite dominating first half, as his team failed to register a single shot on target from 12 attempts.

Osasuna striker Ante Budimir couldn’t hide his frustration after his side failed to register a single shot on target in their defeat to Girona.

Wasteful Osasuna left empty-handed

It was a proper case of shooting yourself in the foot for Osasuna at Montilivi. Despite dominating large stretches of the match, particularly in the first half where they had Girona on the ropes, Los Rojillos left with nothing to show for their efforts.

The stats make for grim reading:

  • 12 shots attempted
  • 0 shots on target
  • 1 woodwork hit (Rubén García striking the crossbar)

Meanwhile, Girona showed clinical efficiency, scoring with a cheeky backheel from one of their few approaches.

Budimir’s brutal honesty

Budimir, who’s usually more reliable than the Northern line when it comes to finding the target, didn’t mince his words after the match, taking responsibility himself in the process.

“If we don’t shoot between the posts, myself first and foremost, we can’t win,” the Croatian striker admitted, clearly gutted about the result.

First-half dominance counts for nothing

What seemed to frustrate Budimir most was the contrast between Osasuna’s performance and the final result. “In the first half we were all over them,” he lamented, struggling to understand how his team came away empty-handed.

“It’s inexplicable that they approach once and score with a backheel, while we have so many chances and don’t even hit the target,” Budimir continued, highlighting the cruel nature of football when you don’t take your chances.

Away day blues continue

The result extends Osasuna’s disappointing run away from El Sadar, but Budimir remains confident their approach will eventually pay dividends.

“We haven’t won away, but this mentality of going after opponents is right. We will win, sooner or later,” he insisted, urging calm while acknowledging improvements are needed.

For Osasuna and Budimir, it’s a case of keeping their shooting boots polished and maintaining belief that their attacking approach will eventually bear fruit on the road.
