Lisci left gobsmacked as Osasuna's away day blues continue at Girona

Osasuna boss Alessio Lisci struggles to comprehend his side's defeat at Girona, claiming they'd win that match '99 times out of 100' with the chances created.

Alessio Lisci cut a frustrated figure as Osasuna’s search for their first away win of the season continues after a defeat that left the manager utterly bewildered.

Statistical anomaly

The Italian gaffer couldn’t believe his luck – or lack thereof – as Osasuna fell to another defeat on their travels despite creating what he felt were enough chances to win several matches.

“We play this match a hundred times and we lose it once,” Lisci remarked, with the kind of disbelief you’d expect from someone who’s just found out the price of a pint in central London.

The defeat has clearly got under Lisci’s skin, but he remains adamant that his side are on the right track despite their away day hoodoo showing no signs of ending.

First-half dominance

What seemed to particularly irk the Osasuna boss was how his side controlled proceedings before the interval:

  • Two clear chances for Moncayola
  • A shot that rattled the crossbar
  • Another opportunity for Víctor

“In the first half we were superior,” Lisci explained, highlighting the five “crystal clear” chances his team created – the sort of opportunities you simply must bury at this level, especially when you’re on your travels.

Psychological barrier

With Osasuna still searching for that elusive first away win, Lisci acknowledged the potential mental block forming in his squad.

“It’s possible that it’s weighing on the team psychologically, so we need to keep our heads clear,” he admitted.

Despite the disappointing result, Lisci wants his team to replicate most of what they did at Girona, barring “the last ten or fifteen minutes of the second half where we were poor.”

For Osasuna fans, it’s becoming a bit of a dog and bone situation on the road – they create the chances but just can’t seem to put them away when it matters most.
