Osasuna's away day blues continue as Girona edge them out

Osasuna's woeful away form shows no signs of improving after another defeat on the road, this time at the hands of Girona in a tight encounter.

Osasuna’s away form continues to be their Achilles heel as they slumped to yet another defeat on their travels, this time against Girona.

Away Day Nightmare

If there’s one thing becoming painfully obvious about this Osasuna side, it’s that they’re proper Jekyll and Hyde depending on whether they’re at home or away. Their latest setback came courtesy of a solitary Vanat goal just before half-time, extending what’s becoming a worrying trend for the Navarre outfit.

The numbers make for grim reading:

  • Just 2 points collected from a possible 30 on their travels
  • Failed to score in 8 of their 10 away matches
  • Only 3 goals celebrated by travelling supporters all season (2 vs Mallorca, 1 vs Villarreal)

While you might forgive defeats at heavyweights like Real Madrid, Atlético and Barcelona, they’ve also come unstuck against bottom-dwellers Oviedo and teams below them in the table like Mallorca and now Girona.

Home Comforts

Thank goodness for El Sadar, where Alessio Lisci’s men have been a different proposition entirely. They’ve amassed 17 points on home soil, keeping their heads just above water in the league standings.

However, their current trajectory is concerning. With 19 points in total, they’re on pace for around 38 points come season’s end - falling short of that magic 40-point mark that usually guarantees safety. It’s a far cry from last season when their home form was robust enough to propel them past the 50-point barrier.

Danger Ahead?

This isn’t a new problem for Osasuna - they struggled away from home last season too. But the difference was their imperious home form more than compensated. This time around, the numbers suggest they might not have that luxury.

If they can’t find a remedy for their travel sickness soon, Osasuna could find themselves in proper Barney Rubble before long. With the relegation dogfight looking particularly fierce this season, they’ll need to start picking up points on the road, or risk being dragged into the scrap for survival.
