Barça's Saudi Super Cup triumph adds €2m to their coffers

Barcelona's Spanish Super Cup victory nets them a €2m prize, with Real Madrid taking €1.5m as runners-up in Saudi Arabia's lucrative tournament.

Barcelona’s trophy cabinet welcomes a shiny new addition alongside a tidy cash injection after their Spanish Super Cup triumph.

Show me the money

It’s not just silverware the Catalans are bringing home from Saudi Arabia. Their Super Cup victory has earned them a cool €2 million prize money, while the defeated Real Madrid won’t be crying into their paella either, pocketing around €1.5 million as runners-up.

These figures come on top of the guaranteed €6 million both El Clásico giants received simply for participating in the competition. Talk about a nice little earner!

The other semi-finalists didn’t do too badly either:

  • Atlético Madrid collected just over €2 million for their Saudi adventure
  • Athletic Club took home €1.8 million plus a percentage of TV rights
  • Both losing semi-finalists also received approximately €1 million as a consolation prize

Saudi investment

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is absolutely raking it in from this Middle Eastern excursion. They’re pocketing a whopping €51 million for hosting the tournament in Saudi Arabia.

Where’s all this bread going? Well, just over half (€26 million) is supposedly earmarked for developing Spanish football across its various tiers - Primera, Segunda and Tercera Federación. The remaining dosh forms the prize pot that’s distributed among the four participating clubs.

Barça will be laughing all the way to the bank with their trophy and cash bonus. Not a bad few days’ work in the desert for the Blaugrana, who’ve added another piece of silverware to their collection while giving their bank balance a healthy boost.
