Corberán admits Valencia must deliver results as pressure mounts after Elche draw
Valencia boss Carlos Corberán acknowledges fans' frustrations following disappointing 1-1 stalemate with Elche at Mestalla despite creating numerous chances.
Pressure building at Mestalla as Valencia’s poor run continues with frustrating draw against Elche, leaving Corberán facing tough questions about his side’s finishing.
Chances created, points dropped
Another weekend, another disappointing result for Valencia as they could only manage a 1-1 draw against Elche at Mestalla. The home side created enough chances to win the game comfortably but lacked the clinical edge needed to turn one point into three.
Corberán didn’t mince his words post-match, acknowledging that football often comes down to taking your opportunities. While Valencia emptied the tank effort-wise, Elche managed to score with their only shot on target - proper daylight robbery if you ask me.
“We generated sufficient volume to have won the game,” Corberán insisted, clearly frustrated that his side’s dominance wasn’t reflected in the scoreline.
No hiding place
The Spanish gaffer knows full well that results haven’t been up to scratch lately. Valencia had targeted this home fixture as the perfect chance to right the ship, but instead find themselves still treading water.
While Corberán praised his team’s effort, he was crystal clear that moral victories count for naff all in this business:
- “We have to value the team’s effort although the result is insufficient”
- “We must improve and persist to change this negative run”
- “The fans want to see results - it’s on us to deliver”
Injury concerns and transfer plans
Adding to Valencia’s woes, Thierry Correia picked up an injury during the match, though Corberán couldn’t immediately confirm its severity.
On a more positive note, the boss confirmed the club is actively working on January reinforcements, with a centre-back being the top priority following Mouctar Diakhaby’s injury.
“The centre-back position needs urgent attention,” Corberán stated, making it clear to the Valencia brass that they need to get their skates on in the transfer market.
For a team with Valencia’s history and ambitions, these are concerning times. The players might be putting in the graft, but as the old saying goes - it’s results that pay the rent, not performances.
