Getafe in advanced talks with Villarreal for Ilias Akhomach deal
Bordalás' public plea for reinforcements may be answered soon as Getafe move ahead of Alavés in race for Moroccan winger currently getting limited minutes at Villarreal.
Getafe are closing in on Villarreal’s Moroccan winger Ilias Akhomach after manager José Bordalás made a desperate public appeal for reinforcements following Friday’s defeat to Real Sociedad.
Bordalás at breaking point
The Getafe gaffer didn’t mince his words after the loss, suggesting he’s been left short-changed in the transfer department. Bordalás claimed he’s “sad” about the situation, adding that even his famous ability to maximize resources has its limits - like a pencil that’s been sharpened down to nothing.
Morocco man on the move?
Akhomach has struggled for consistent playing time under Marcelino this season, making just three starts from his 15 appearances. The youngster clearly has talent in his locker, but finding regular minutes has proved tricky at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
While several clubs have been sniffing around the winger - with Alavés among the interested parties - it’s Getafe who’ve stolen a march in negotiations. They’re now in pole position to land the Moroccan, though nothing’s set in stone just yet.
Timing complications
The situation is made more complex by two factors:
- Akhomach is currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco
- His Villarreal contract runs until 2027, giving the Yellow Submarine plenty of leverage
Villarreal are reportedly keen to wait for the player’s return from AFCON before making any final decisions on his future. While Getafe’s interest is concrete, the ball remains firmly in Villarreal’s court.
If the deal does go through, it would represent a significant boost for Bordalás, who’s clearly feeling the pressure with his current squad options. For Akhomach, it could offer the regular playing time his development needs at this stage of his career.
