Getafe vs Valencia: A fiery relegation six-pointer on the horizon
With Getafe looking to snap their poor run and Valencia sliding towards the drop zone, next weekend's clash at the Coliseum has all the makings of a season-defining encounter.
A crucial opportunity for Getafe to halt their worrying form and land a significant blow in the relegation battle awaits as they prepare to host Valencia next Sunday.
Relegation implications
The Azulones currently sit four points clear of the drop zone, which is currently occupied by Corberán’s Valencia side who’ve been on a dismal run of late, slipping into the bottom three. The Getafe dressing room knows full well that three points at the Coliseum would:
- Create a seven-point buffer between themselves and Valencia
- Provide a perfect start to the second half of the season
- Potentially mark a turning point in their campaign
For a side that’s had their fair share of troubles recently, this Madrid-Valencia clash couldn’t come at a better time, especially with the visitors looking proper pants at the moment.
Bordalás boosted by returning players
The gaffer’s been handed a timely boost ahead of this six-pointer. Both Djené and Domingos Duarte have completed their suspensions and will be available to reform their central defensive partnership against Los Che.
The treatment room is also potentially clearing out, with Abdel Abqar and Abu Kamara possibly returning to contention for the Valencia match.
With reinforcements coming back at just the right time, Getafe will fancy their chances of putting some daylight between themselves and the bottom three. For Valencia, it’s another chance to stop the rot and climb out of what’s becoming a right two and eight situation in the relegation scrap.
