Jutglà misses Sevilla trip as Celta forward's absence raises eyebrows
The Catalan striker has been left out of Celta Vigo's squad for their La Liga clash with Sevilla due to personal reasons, amid diminishing playing time.
Celta manager Claudio Giráldez has named his 24-man squad for the upcoming clash against Sevilla, with Ferran Jutglà’s absence being the headline news coming out of Balaídos.
Personal matters behind the absence
The Catalan forward has been left out of a Celta matchday squad for the first time since joining the club, with ‘personal reasons’ cited as the official explanation. Bit of a strange one, this.
What’s particularly interesting is how Jutglà’s role has been gradually diminishing throughout the campaign. The former Barcelona man has made 21 appearances across all competitions this season, but his contributions have been rather limited:
- Just 2 goals to his name
- A solitary assist
- 1,029 minutes of playing time in total
For a player who arrived with decent expectations, those numbers aren’t exactly setting the world on fire. His absence now will only fuel speculation about his future at the club.
Other squad news
Jutglà isn’t the only absentee for the trip to Andalusia. Both Carlos Domínguez and Ristic have been left out despite receiving medical clearance this week. Unlike Jutglà, however, their exclusion is purely a technical decision by Giráldez.
On a more positive note for the Galicians, Swedish centre-back Carl Starfelt returns to the squad after missing the Valencia match with lower back problems. His recovery provides a welcome boost to Celta’s defensive options as they prepare to face a tricky Sevilla side.
The timing of these squad adjustments is crucial as Celta look to improve their position in the table. Giráldez will be hoping his selection calls pay dividends at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
