Sánchez injury scare adds to Sevilla's attacking woes ahead of Celta clash
The Chilean forward missed Sunday training with a pelvic contusion, potentially leaving Almeyda short of options up front for Monday's crucial LaLiga fixture.
Sevilla’s attacking options continue to dwindle as Alexis Sánchez becomes the latest doubt ahead of Monday’s home clash with Celta Vigo.
Injury concerns mounting for Almeyda
The Chilean forward was absent from Sunday’s final training session at the club’s training ground after suffering a pelvic contusion during Saturday’s workout. This potential absence couldn’t come at a worse time for manager Matías Almeyda, who’s already dealing with a proper mare in terms of available attacking talent.
Sánchez isn’t the only concern for Los Nervionenses, with Brazilian defender Marcao also missing from group training. The club has confirmed he’s begun an individual training regimen and won’t rejoin his teammates until late next week. Not that he’d be available for the Celta match anyway - he’s serving the second game of a six-match suspension following his red card against Real Madrid.
Absentee list growing
The injury room at Sevilla is getting rather crowded these days:
- César Azpilicueta, Gabriel Suazo and Alfon González all continue their recovery from various injuries
- Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams remain away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations until at least next Sunday
- Nigeria’s victory over Algeria yesterday secured their semi-final spot, where they’ll face Morocco on Wednesday
Ticket promotion for crucial fixture
Recognising the importance of Monday’s match, Sevilla has implemented reduced pricing to boost attendance at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán:
- Season ticket holders can purchase additional tickets ranging from €15 in the end stands to €50 in the premium sections
- General public tickets start at €20 for the North and South ends, between €30-40 for Fondo seats, and €50-60 for premium locations
Almeyda will address the media this afternoon ahead of tomorrow’s 9:00 PM kickoff against Celta Vigo, a fixture that represents the 19th round of the LaLiga EA Sports season.
