Turrientes scare a false alarm: Beasain midfielder back in training after Getafe knock

Real Sociedad midfielder Beñat Turrientes has returned to training after suffering a heavy blow during Friday's match against Getafe, easing injury concerns.

Relief for La Real as midfield talent shakes off Friday night knock and returns to training ahead of crucial fixtures.

Talk about dodging a bullet! Real Sociedad fans can breathe easy as Beñat Turrientes was spotted in training this morning at Zubieta, putting to bed any worries about a potential injury layoff. The talented midfielder had alarm bells ringing when he was substituted in the 65th minute during Friday’s clash with Getafe after taking a proper whack.

Finding his feet under Matarazzo

The Beasain-born midfielder has been absolutely mustard under new gaffer Pellegrino Matarazzo, starting both matches since the Italian-American took the reins and putting in some proper shifts. It’s a welcome change of fortune for the lad who struggled to get a regular look-in under the previous system.

Turrientes has thrown his hat into the ring alongside Jon Gorrotxategi and Carlos Soler for one of the two central midfield spots in Matarazzo’s revamped 4-2-3-1 formation. This marks a significant tactical shift from the 4-3-3 setup that La Real had employed in recent seasons.

Transfer U-turn?

What’s particularly interesting about Turrientes’ resurgence is the timing. According to previous reports, the midfielder was actually considering doing one in January due to his limited playing time under former boss Sergio Francisco.

But two starts on the bounce under the new gaffer might have him thinking twice about any potential exit. The midfielder has never hidden his deep connection to Real Sociedad – it’s his bread and butter – and his dream has always been to make it big with his beloved club.

With Zubimendi and Merino no longer blocking his path to the first team, this could be the perfect opportunity for Turrientes to cement his place in the starting eleven and fulfill his ambition of becoming a Real Sociedad stalwart.
