Another coach shown the door at Valdebebas as Madrid's coaching shake-up continues

Real Madrid set to announce the sacking of Joselu Sánchez from Real Madrid C after dismal run, with Alberto Toril among candidates to step in amid wider coaching reshuffle.

Just a day after Xabi Alonso’s departure was confirmed, another coaching casualty is imminent at Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training complex, with the club preparing to announce Joselu Sánchez’s dismissal from his role as Real Madrid C manager.

Crisis in the reserves

The decision to remove Sánchez comes after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Getafe B, which has left Madrid’s second reserve team in dire straits. The numbers tell a grim story:

  • Just 3 points from a possible 24 in their last 8 matches
  • A dismal run of 3 draws and 5 defeats
  • Now sitting 6 points from safety in the relegation zone

While the club had shown patience with Sánchez despite difficult circumstances, the writing’s been on the wall for weeks. The brass at La Fábrica had already made their decision before Xabi Alonso’s exit was announced, but now find themselves with a proper headache - needing to fill two coaching positions instead of one.

Domino effect at La Fábrica

With Álvaro Arbeloa’s promotion leaving the Castilla job vacant, Madrid’s youth setup faces a significant reshuffle. The club must now carefully consider who takes which role in their coaching hierarchy.

Alberto Toril appears to be the frontrunner for one of the positions. The former Real Madrid Femenino coach is highly regarded at the club and previously enjoyed success with Castilla, guiding a team featuring the likes of Morata, Carvajal and others to promotion to Segunda División.

Other candidates in the mix include:

  • Marcos Jiménez - current Juvenil B coach and former assistant to Raúl at Castilla
  • Pau Quesada - Real Madrid Femenino coach who previously led Madrid C to promotion to Segunda Federación in 2024

The club now faces a tricky balancing act, deciding whether to install Toril at Castilla and find another solution for the C team, or place him directly with the struggling third-tier side to steady the ship.

With official confirmation expected as early as Tuesday, it’s all gone a bit Pete Tong at Valdebebas as Los Blancos attempt to sort out their coaching conundrum below the first team.
