Cancelo jets into Barcelona for medical ahead of Tuesday unveiling

Portuguese full-back João Cancelo has completed his medical at Barcelona ahead of a loan move from Saudi club Al Hilal, with official presentation set for Tuesday.

Barcelona’s January reinforcement has arrived in Catalonia as João Cancelo touched down in the city on Monday to complete his medical examination ahead of a loan move from Saudi Arabian outfit Al Hilal.

Medical passed with flying colours

The Portuguese international landed in Barcelona around midday on Monday accompanied by his family, though his agent Jorge Mendes wasn’t part of the traveling party. Cancelo then headed straight to Barcelona Hospital where he successfully completed his medical examination without any complications.

Presentation schedule confirmed

The club has wasted no time arranging his official unveiling, with Tuesday’s schedule already mapped out:

  • Contract signing ceremony at 13:00 in President Joan Laporta’s office
  • Media press conference scheduled for 13:30
  • Expected to join training with the squad before these events

Ready for immediate action

Barcelona’s coaching staff are keen to integrate Cancelo quickly, with plans already in place for him to travel with the squad to Santander for Thursday’s Copa del Rey clash against Racing. Talk about hitting the ground running!

Deal timing explained

While Barcelona had reportedly reached an agreement with the player several days ago, the club deliberately held off finalising the transfer during their Supercopa de España campaign - a decision that paid dividends as they lifted the trophy.

The final green light from La Liga only arrived on Saturday after the competition’s Medical Commission validated Barcelona’s report regarding Andreas Christensen’s injury. The Danish defender’s confirmed absence of over four months opened the door for Cancelo’s registration.

This marks Cancelo’s return to the Camp Nou after his previous loan spell from Manchester City. The versatile full-back will be hoping to pick up where he left off in Blaugrana colours.
