CSKA Moscow return with eye-watering £30m bid for Levante star Etta Eyong

Russian giants have doubled their previous offer for Cameroon striker, but player reportedly hesitant about Moscow move despite Levante's financial struggles.

Russian giants CSKA Moscow are absolutely desperate to land Levante’s Cameroonian striker Etta Eyong, tabling a massive new bid that would solve the Spanish club’s money worries in one fell swoop.

Second time lucky for CSKA?

After having a £17m offer rejected a couple of months back, the Moscow outfit have returned with a proper wallet-opener - approximately £30m (€30m) for the Levante frontman. That’s some serious bread and honey that would ease Levante’s financial troubles considerably.

The timing is interesting too, with Eyong only just returning from Africa Cup of Nations duty with Cameroon. According to Deportes COPE Valencia, despite the astronomical figures being thrown about, the player himself isn’t particularly keen on swapping sunny Spain for the Russian Premier League.

Levante’s main man

It’s not hard to see why CSKA are so determined to secure his signature:

  • Eyong has established himself as Levante’s star player
  • He’s been a guaranteed starter regardless of who’s in the dugout
  • With five goals, he’s currently the squad’s top scorer
  • Only joined from Villarreal on September 1st last year for around £3.2m (€3.8m)

Contract situation

The striker’s current deal runs until 2029, giving Levante plenty of bargaining power. His release clause stands at:

  • €30m for Spanish clubs
  • €40m for foreign teams

With CSKA matching the domestic release clause amount, the ball appears to be entirely in Eyong’s court. The question now is whether the Russian club can convince the Cameroonian that Moscow is worth swapping the Mediterranean sunshine for.
