Getafe closing in on River Plate's Sebastián Boselli to bolster defence

The Madrid club are nearing a deal for the Uruguayan centre-back with reports suggesting a €1.5m fee for 50% of his rights as Bordalás seeks defensive reinforcements.

Getafe look set to address their defensive frailties with the imminent arrival of Uruguayan centre-back Sebastián Boselli from River Plate, with the deal reportedly in its final stages.

Deal nearly done

The Madrid outfit have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to strengthen their squad this January, with sporting director Toni Muñoz and president Ángel Torres focusing on areas highlighted by manager José Bordalás.

According to reports from Argentina, Getafe are set to acquire 50% of Boselli’s rights for approximately €1.5 million. Sources close to MARCA confirm the deal is practically agreed upon by all parties involved.

In what appears to be a telling sign, Boselli was notably absent from River Plate’s friendly match in Montevideo earlier today. The defender is reportedly preparing for an imminent return to Spain in the coming hours to finalise the move.

Defensive crisis

The need for defensive reinforcements became painfully obvious for Getafe in their recent fixture when they found themselves without a single natural centre-back available. This perfect storm occurred due to:

  • Djené’s suspension
  • Domingos Duarte serving a ban
  • Abqar sidelined through injury

While this particular combination of absences might be unlikely to repeat itself, it highlighted the squad’s vulnerability and the necessity for greater depth in central defence.

January priorities

Strengthening the heart of defence isn’t Getafe’s only January objective. The club is also targeting a striker as they look to secure their La Liga status for another season.

Despite their recent poor run of results, Los Azulones remain on track to achieve their primary goal of avoiding relegation based on their current league position. The addition of Boselli would certainly bolster their chances of maintaining that trajectory.
