Lucas Pérez parts ways with Leganés as club looks ahead to Castellón clash

The Spanish striker has left the Madrid-based club by mutual agreement following a meeting with club officials and coaching staff last weekend.

Veteran forward Lucas Pérez has officially left CD Leganés after the club announced both parties have agreed to go their separate ways following a meeting last weekend.

Mutual Decision

The Madrid-based club returned to training on Monday following their impressive 3-0 victory against Real Valladolid on Sunday, but they did so without the Galician striker in their ranks.

According to the club’s statement, Leganés’ football directors, coaching staff and the player himself held a meeting on Saturday where they mutually agreed to “conclude his training sessions” with the club, effectively ending his time at the Pepineros.

“The club thanks the Galician forward for his willingness and wishes him the best of luck in his personal and professional future,” read the statement from Leganés.

Focus Shifts to Castellón

While Pérez departs, Leganés are already preparing for their next challenge. The squad is now fully focused on Friday’s upcoming fixture against CD Castellón as they look to build on their convincing weekend victory.

The timing is interesting, with the club making this decision after such a strong performance against Valladolid, suggesting they’re confident in their attacking options moving forward in the Segunda División campaign.

What’s Next?

For Leganés, it’s full steam ahead with their promotion push, while for the 35-year-old Pérez, this marks another chapter in what has been a well-traveled career that has included stints at Deportivo La Coruña, Arsenal, West Ham, and Cádiz among others.

The January transfer window remains open, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the experienced forward find a new club in the coming weeks. Watch this space, as they say in the bread and butter.
