Mallorca eyeing Villarreal's Ilias Akhomach as top January target
The islanders have made the former Barcelona youth product their priority signing as they look to bolster their attacking options this winter transfer window.
Mallorca are desperately seeking reinforcements for their struggling attack, with Villarreal’s Ilias Akhomach emerging as their top January target.
Hunting for attacking spark
Times aren’t exactly rosy on the Balearic island right now. The Bermellones are in desperate need of restructuring their offensive department, particularly on the right wing where they’ve been lacking proper quality.
Sources close to the club indicate that sporting director Pablo Ortells has identified Akhomach as the priority target to strengthen their attacking options this winter. The 20-year-old winger, who has a contract with Villarreal until 2027, has registered 6 goals and 7 assists in 66 appearances for the Yellow Submarine since joining from Barcelona.
Alternative options
This development comes after previous reports suggested Mallorca had already secured Kalumba for the summer, with potential to bring that deal forward to January. However, this wouldn’t necessarily rule out additional signings.
The club has also shown interest in Girona’s Yáser Asprilla, but the Adam and Eve (believe) is that the Catalans’ demands of €2 million for a loan until the end of the season have forced Mallorca to explore other avenues.
Potential dream attack
If Mallorca can pull off the Akhomach signing, they’d potentially form a formidable attacking trio alongside Virgili and Muriqi – giving manager Jagoba Arrasate some proper options up top for the remainder of the season.
The former Barcelona youth product represents exactly the type of creative wide player Mallorca have been crying out for, and his acquisition would be a serious statement of intent from a club looking to secure their top-flight status.
