Mbappé still comfortably leading Pichichi race as La Liga scoring charts take shape
The French striker remains well clear in the race for Spain's top scorer award, with Ferran Torres and Muriqi trailing by seven goals after matchday 19.
Real Madrid’s star striker continues his blistering form in front of goal, establishing a commanding lead in the race for Spain’s prestigious top scorer award as La Liga approaches its midway point.
Mbappé dominating the scoring charts
Kylian Mbappé is absolutely bossing it in the Pichichi race, sitting pretty at the top with a whopping 18 goals to his name. The Frenchman has left his nearest challengers in his dust, with both Ferran Torres and Vedat Muriqi trailing behind on 11 goals each - a proper seven-goal gap between them and Madrid’s number 10.
Matchday 19 saw all three top scorers find the net:
- Mbappé bagged a brace against Athletic Club
- Ferran scored against Atlético Madrid
- Muriqi netted against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday
It’s worth noting that Barcelona and Real Madrid played their matchday 19 fixtures earlier (January 2nd and 3rd respectively) due to their Supercopa de España commitments.
Zamora Trophy heating up
While Mbappé’s running away with the scoring title, the battle for best goalkeeper is a bit tighter. Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois currently leads the Zamora Trophy standings with a coefficient of 0.89, having conceded just 17 goals in 19 matches.
Espanyol’s Dmitrovic sits second with a 1.05 coefficient (20 goals in 19 games), while Osasuna’s Sergio Herrera and Rayo Vallecano’s Batalla share third place with identical 1.16 coefficients after conceding 22 goals in 19 appearances.
Segunda División awards race
Down in Spain’s second tier, Almería’s Arribas tops the scoring charts with 11 goals, just one ahead of Racing duo Andrés Martín and Villalibre, who are both on 10 goals and breathing down his neck.
In the goalkeeper department, Burgos stopper Cantero leads the Segunda Zamora race with a 0.95 coefficient (20 goals conceded in 21 games). Leganés keeper Juan Soriano follows with a perfect 1.00 coefficient (21 goals in 21 games), while Cádiz’s Aznar and Valladolid’s Guilherme share third spot with identical 1.10 coefficients.
