Valencia's uphill struggle: 13 of 19 opponents have left Los Che frozen in their tracks

Barça's relegation-threatened rivals have spent just 244 minutes leading matches this season compared to 570 minutes chasing games, highlighting their crisis.

Valencia are making heavy weather of this season, finding themselves frozen in the relegation zone at the halfway point with no clear path to safety. The numbers paint a grim picture for a club that’s become all too familiar with the bottom end of the table under Meriton ownership.

Stuck in reverse gear

It’s been a proper nightmare for Valencia this term, with the team winning just three matches all season. The stats behind their struggles make for particularly grim reading:

  • Valencia have gone behind in 13 of their 19 league matches so far
  • They’ve only led in 6 matches (against Real Sociedad, Getafe, Athletic, Espanyol, Oviedo and Levante)
  • Los Che have spent a measly 244 minutes in winning positions from 1,710 minutes played
  • In contrast, they’ve spent 570 minutes trailing their opponents

Talk about swimming against the tide! Their longest spell chasing a game came against Osasuna, where they trailed for 81 painful minutes.

The Mestalla curse continues

Their home form tells its own story. Valencia’s last three results at Mestalla have all ended in identical 1-1 draws against Sevilla, Mallorca and Elche. The common denominator? In each match, they’ve gone behind before scraping an equalizer.

While the performances might have deserved more, there’s always some circumstance or detail that goes against them. It’s become a psychological block that nobody at the club seems capable of shifting.

More than just bad luck

Even when Valencia do manage to get their noses in front, they struggle to capitalize. The most painful example came against Oviedo at Mestalla, where they led for 81 minutes only to collapse late on and lose 2-1.

This inability to manage game situations speaks to a deeper crisis of confidence. The team appears trapped in a negative spiral both on and off the pitch, with each setback reinforcing the feeling that something will inevitably go wrong.

With half the season gone and Valencia firmly in the drop zone, the club desperately needs to find a way to break this pattern before it’s too late. Right now, they’re in a proper two and eight, and the signs of recovery are few and far between.
