Yamal's dressing room stream catches Szczęsny having a cheeky smoke
Barcelona's teenage star inadvertently filmed the Polish keeper lighting up during Supercopa celebrations, with voices warning 'that can't be recorded'.
Barcelona’s dressing room celebrations after their Supercopa triumph over Real Madrid took an unexpected turn when Lamine Yamal’s livestream caught more than he bargained for.
Smoke and mirrors
The 16-year-old wonderkid, fresh from Barcelona’s thrilling 3-2 victory against their bitter rivals, was busy capturing the jubilant atmosphere on a livestream when he inadvertently filmed new signing Wojciech Szczęsny having a crafty cigarette in the changing room.
A voice can be heard in the background quickly warning the teenager: “That can’t be recorded” - a bit late for that one, mate!
Yamal, who earlier went viral for his dance celebrations with teammates Marc Casadó, Alejandro Balde and Roony Bardghji, clearly didn’t get the memo about the Polish keeper’s penchant for post-match ciggies.
Szczęsny’s smoking history
This isn’t the first time Szczęsny’s smoking habits have landed him in hot water. The Polish international has been quite open about his tobacco use in the past, despite it causing him a few headaches:
- In 2015, he was slapped with a €25,000 fine after being caught smoking in the Arsenal dressing room following a 2-0 defeat to Southampton
- He later explained he tried to hide in the shower area, but someone grassed him up to then-manager Arsène Wenger
Since joining Barcelona, Szczęsny has maintained his stance on the habit, telling Spanish media: “It’s not anyone’s business if I smoke. I don’t think it affects what I do.”
The keeper has been adamant that while he’s careful not to smoke around children to avoid setting a bad example, he won’t change his personal habits for anyone’s approval.
“I am who I am. I’ve been this way my whole life,” Szczęsny stated in recent interviews, insisting he wants to be judged on his performances between the sticks rather than his personal choices.
For young Yamal, it was probably a valuable lesson in social media discretion - though the Barcelona celebrations continued regardless, with the Catalan giants revelling in their Supercopa success over Los Blancos.
