Huesca's nightmare first half of the season leaves them in relegation dogfight
SD Huesca finish the first half of their Segunda División campaign in the drop zone, with manager Jon Pérez Bolo under mounting pressure despite still having credit in the bank.
SD Huesca ended the first half of their Segunda División campaign in the worst possible fashion, slipping into the relegation zone amid growing concerns about their form.
Relegation reality bites
Despite not deserving to lose their latest match, the Aragonese outfit now find themselves in proper bother at the halfway mark. Manager Jon Pérez Bolo still has some credit in the bank with the board, but he desperately needs results on the bread and butter - and sharpish.
With just 23 points from their opening 21 matches, Huesca face an uphill battle to reach that magic 50-point mark typically needed for survival. The table’s tighter than a duck’s you-know-what down at the bottom, but their upcoming fixtures don’t do them any favours:
- Next up: Away trip to Burgos
- Followed by: Another away day at Andorra
These consecutive road tests couldn’t come at a worse time for a side desperately needing to banish some relegation demons.
Form falling off a cliff
The numbers make for grim reading - Huesca have managed just one win from their last six matches. While there were fleeting moments of improvement in their most recent outing, the overall vibes remain decidedly negative.
Particularly concerning have been the hammerings dished out by Valladolid and Castellón, while the defeat to Córdoba has set alarm bells ringing throughout El Alcoraz. It’s gone from bad to worse faster than you can say “Segunda B”.
January transfer window crucial
The winter market now looks absolutely crucial to Huesca’s survival hopes. New signing Efe Aghama made his debut in the latest defeat, showing some promising touches, but he can’t be expected to turn things around single-handedly.
More reinforcements are desperately needed, while outgoings are also on the agenda with Hugo Pérez and Gustavo Albarracín seemingly surplus to requirements having been frozen out for some time.
The next month could well determine whether Huesca are playing Segunda football next season or facing the dreaded drop. The Aragonese faithful will be hoping the club’s brass have a few transfer tricks up their sleeves.
