Muneta takes the reins at struggling Mirandés in third managerial switch
CD Mirandés appoint former player Antxon Muneta as head coach until season's end, their third manager this campaign as they battle relegation from the bottom of Segunda División.
Former player Antxon Muneta has been handed the Mirandés hot seat until the end of the season, becoming the club’s third manager in a campaign that’s going pear-shaped at the bottom of Spain’s Segunda División.
Third time’s a charm?
The managerial merry-go-round at Anduva has been spinning faster than a London cab’s meter in rush hour. Muneta, who previously stepped in as caretaker after Fran Justo’s departure, now takes permanent charge following yesterday’s sacking of Jesús Galván.
The appointment comes with Mirandés rooted to the bottom of the table, six points adrift of safety. It’s a proper relegation scrap they’ve got on their hands.
Muneta is no stranger to Anduva, having made 140 appearances as a player for the club. He’s already had a taste of management there too, guiding the team to victory against Sporting Gijón during his brief interim spell.
New backroom team
The new gaffer won’t be going it alone in this rescue mission:
- Alain Arroyo and César Remón join his coaching staff
- David Fernández stays on as goalkeeper coach
- Diego Isla continues as fitness coach
Muneta has wasted no time getting down to business, taking charge of training at Anduva today as he looks to pull off what would be a right Bobby Dazzler of an escape act.
With the business end of the season approaching, Mirandés faithful will be hoping their former player can translate his understanding of the club into points on the board - and sharpish.
