Soria's traffic cone stunt mocks Arbeloa's Real Madrid appointment

El Chiringuito pundit Cristóbal Soria has taken a cheeky dig at new Real Madrid manager Álvaro Arbeloa with a provocative video featuring a traffic cone.

Former Sevilla delegate stirs the pot with a not-so-subtle reference to Piqué’s infamous ‘cone’ jibe at Madrid’s new gaffer.

Cristóbal Soria, never one to miss a chance for a wind-up, has had a proper laugh at Real Madrid’s expense following Álvaro Arbeloa’s appointment as the new manager. The El Chiringuito pundit posted a video of himself cuddling up to a traffic cone – a clear nod to Gerard Piqué’s infamous dig at Arbeloa from 2015.

Cone Artist

In the video, Soria can be seen with a cheeky grin, hugging a traffic cone while wishing everyone a “perfect day and homologated night” in what can only be described as peak Spanish football banter.

The whole cone business dates back to 2015 when Barcelona’s Gerard Piqué delivered that cutting line about Arbeloa not being his friend but merely a “cono…cido” (known person) – a wordplay on “cono” (cone) that suggested Arbeloa had all the mobility and usefulness of a traffic marker.

Bad Blood Boiling

This latest chapter reopens one of Spanish football’s most petty – and entertaining – personal feuds. The animosity between Piqué and Arbeloa was a proper sideshow during the peak Clásico years:

  • Arbeloa once predicted we’d see Piqué “in a comedy club talking about Madrid”
  • Piqué doubled down on his “conocido” comment when pressed about it
  • By 2017, Arbeloa was declaring he “wouldn’t go for dinner with Piqué”

New Chapter, Same Drama

With Arbeloa stepping in to replace Xabi Alonso as Real Madrid’s new gaffer, it seems the old rivalries are being dusted off. Soria, whose loyalty to Sevilla and anti-Madrid stance is well documented, couldn’t resist getting his two bob’s worth in.

For Madrid fans, this will be water off a duck’s back – but it does highlight how Arbeloa’s appointment has already got the Spanish football world talking. Whether he’ll be a managerial maestro or just another traffic cone in the dugout remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure – the Spanish football circus is alive and kicking.
