Zaragoza kick off January clear-out as Kosa heads back to Slovakia
Real Zaragoza begin crucial winter window operations by sending Sebastian Kosa on loan to Slovakian side Kosice, freeing up squad space for potential survival reinforcements.
Real Zaragoza have finally started their winter window clear-out operation, with Sebastian Kosa shipped off on loan to Slovakian outfit Kosice until the end of the season.
First Departure of the Winter
The central defender returns to his home league in search of playing time that’s been in short supply at the Aragonese club. This marks the first exit in what’s shaping up to be a crucial January transfer window for Zaragoza’s survival hopes.
Kosa’s Spanish adventure has been proper pants since arriving in summer 2024. The defender had to wait until a Copa del Rey clash against Hospitalet for his first start – a match where he put in a shocker of a performance and suffered a nasty ankle injury to boot.
Prior to that disaster, he’d made just three brief appearances, and after recovering from injury, he managed just one more run-out last season. This campaign has been even more barren – zero league appearances with his only showing coming in the cup against Mutilvera.
Summer Exit Likely
The writing’s on the wall for Kosa’s Zaragoza career. When he returns this summer, the club will likely be looking to shift him permanently. He’s not the only disappointing signing on the chopping block either – Samed Bazdar could be the next to get his marching orders as the club works to free up roster spots.
Reinforcements Needed
No new faces are expected before Saturday’s match against Real Sociedad B, leaving manager Rubén Sellés to make do with his current squad for now.
The club’s transfer priorities are clear:
- A central defender
- A midfielder
- A striker
With less than three weeks remaining in the transfer window, Zaragoza’s survival could hinge on their business. The team currently sits three points from safety following their victory in Santander and Huesca’s defeat to Córdoba at El Alcoraz yesterday.
