Albacete secure loan deal for Las Palmas outcast Cedeño

Panamanian midfielder Edward Cedeño heads to Albacete on loan after struggling for minutes under Luis García at Las Palmas, freeing up a non-EU slot for Miyashiro.

Panamanian midfielder Edward Cedeño swaps the Canary Islands for Castilla-La Mancha as Albacete secure his services until the end of the season.

Deal Done

Albacete Balompié have pulled off a tidy bit of business by securing the loan signing of Edward Cedeño from Las Palmas. The Panamanian international arrived at Las Palmas just last summer but has found himself proper Adam and Eve’d when it comes to playing time under manager Luis García.

The numbers tell a brutal story - a measly 96 minutes spread across six league appearances. Not exactly what you’d call a ringing endorsement, is it?

World Cup Dreams

For Cedeño, this move represents a chance to reignite his season and keep those World Cup dreams alive. Panama have qualified for the big dance, and the midfielder will be desperate to cement his place in the national team setup.

Albacete are getting themselves a positional midfielder who can also slot into defensive roles when needed, bringing some much-needed balance to their engine room. The Segunda División outfit will be hoping he can hit the ground running as they look to improve their fortunes in the second half of the campaign.

Las Palmas Reshuffle

The loan deal works nicely for Las Palmas too, freeing up a non-EU registration slot that allows them to complete the signing of Japanese talent Miyashiro - an announcement expected imminently.

This marks the third departure from the Canary Islanders this January window:

  • Edward Cedeño - Loan to Albacete
  • Jaime Mata - Contract terminated
  • Arvelo - Loan to Unionistas de Salamanca

Clearly, Luis García is having a proper clear-out as he reshapes his squad for the business end of the season.
