White House revolution: Real Madrid's academy gets fresh faces on the touchline

Following Arbeloa's promotion to the first team, La Fábrica has undergone a major coaching reshuffle with new appointments at Castilla, Real Madrid C and Juvenil A levels.

Major changes at Valdebebas as Real Madrid’s famed academy La Fábrica installs new management across multiple youth teams after recent departures.

Castilla under new leadership

Julián López de Lerma has taken the reins at Real Madrid Castilla, conducting his first training session on Wednesday. The new gaffer will be assisted by Miguel Barrio as his number two, while Marcos Chena steps in as fitness coach.

The timing’s tight for the new setup - they’ll make their competitive debut this Sunday at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium against Mérida in Primera Federación, with kickoff scheduled for 18:15.

Changes cascade down the ranks

The coaching reshuffle was triggered by Álvaro Arbeloa’s promotion to the first team and Joselu Sánchez’s dismissal from Real Madrid C. This has created a proper domino effect throughout the academy structure.

  • Real Madrid C: Víctor Cea has been appointed as the new head coach, with Marcos Merino serving as his assistant. They’re already preparing the lads for Saturday’s match against Orihuela at Ciudad Real Madrid’s Field 7 (17:30).

  • Juvenil A: Álvaro López has taken charge of the U19 team with Luis Ayllón as his second-in-command. Talk about being thrown in at the deep end - their first assignment is a Copa del Rey round of 32 clash against Cádiz this Sunday (16:00).

Building for the future

These appointments represent Madrid’s commitment to maintaining a clear pathway from youth to senior football. The club has always prided itself on developing talent in-house, with recent graduates like Raúl Asencio and Nico Paz making the step up to first-team involvement.

While fans will be keeping their mince pies on how the first team fares under Carlo Ancelotti, these academy changes could have significant long-term implications for the club’s future.

The pressure’s on these new coaches to maintain La Fábrica’s reputation as one of Europe’s premier talent factories, especially with Barcelona’s La Masia constantly pushing them for Spanish academy supremacy.
