Atlético snap up former Real Madrid academy star Hugo Humanes from Inter
The 18-year-old striker, who scored over 100 goals in Real Madrid's youth system, joins Atlético Madrid after a brief stint in Italy with Inter Milan.
Young Spanish talent returns to Madrid - but trades white for red and white stripes.
Prodigal son returns to the capital
Atlético Madrid have officially announced the signing of 18-year-old striker Hugo Humanes from Inter Milan. The talented forward has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2028, and will initially join Ángel Donato’s Juvenil A squad.
Born in Guadalajara on January 29, 2007, Humanes developed his skills in Real Madrid’s youth system before making a surprising move to Inter Milan in 2023. His return to Madrid - albeit to Los Blancos’ city rivals - marks an interesting new chapter in his young career.
From La Fábrica to the Metropolitano
Humanes spent nine seasons at Real Madrid’s famed academy ‘La Fábrica’ after joining in 2014 at the pre-benjamin level. During his time in white, he:
- Scored over 100 goals for Real Madrid’s youth teams
- Was coached by former Madrid defender Álvaro Arbeloa at the infantil level
- Went viral for scoring a spectacular ‘Nayim-style’ goal (one for the older fans, that)
- Left the club in 2023 at cadet level to join Inter Milan
The player’s perspective
Speaking to Atlético’s official media channels, Humanes expressed his excitement about the move: “I’m very happy, I’ve already met my teammates and coaching staff, and it feels like a family.”
The youngster has clear ambitions but remains focused on the immediate tasks ahead: “My dream is to debut at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, but I’m focused on competing in the league, Copa del Rey, Youth League… We have the team for it.”
What next for the young striker?
Atlético will be hoping they’ve nabbed a proper Bobby Dazzler from their rivals. The signing represents another example of talent circulating between Spain and Italy, with Humanes having spent less than a year with Inter before returning to Spain.
With his prolific scoring record at youth level, Colchoneros fans will be keeping a close eye on his development, while Real Madrid supporters might be left wondering if they’ve let one slip through their fingers.
