Barça and Mbappé dominate La Liga's statistical halfway mark
Barcelona emerge as winter champions with impressive attacking stats, while Mbappé leads the Pichichi race in a season where both have set the standard in Spain's top flight.
Barcelona’s collective brilliance and Kylian Mbappé’s individual excellence have dominated the statistical landscape as La Liga reaches its halfway point in its 95th edition.
Barça setting the standard
The Catalan giants have been crowned ‘winter champions’ after establishing themselves as the statistical leaders in multiple categories. Their attacking prowess has been particularly impressive:
- Most goals scored (53) in the division
- Only team to score in every single match played
- Put 6 past Valencia in one of four matches where they’ve scored 4+ goals
- Scored in both halves in 12 different matches
Hansi Flick’s men have also maintained the club’s philosophical legacy with a staggering 68.67% average possession - comfortably ahead of second-placed Elche (59.53%), managed by former Barça B coach Eder Sarabia.
In passing accuracy, Barcelona (89.44%) narrowly edge Real Madrid (89.42%), while Getafe languish at the bottom with just 70.19% passing accuracy.
Mbappé making his mark
The Frenchman has wasted no time establishing himself in Spain, currently leading the Pichichi race with 18 goals. Interestingly, he’s been more prolific away from the Bernabéu, netting 11 on the road compared to 7 at home.
Mbappé’s hunger for goals is evident in the numbers - he leads the league with 88 shots attempted (39 on target). However, there’s room for improvement as he’s been caught offside more than any other player (18 times).
Other statistical standouts
The league has seen 485 goals across 189 matches (with Levante-Villarreal still to be played), with 86 home wins, 50 draws and 52 away victories.
Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois has kept the most clean sheets (8), while Oviedo’s Aarón Escandell has made the most saves (95).
Barça’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal tops the dribbling charts with 82 successful take-ons and has won 133 duels - tied with Elche’s Aleix Febas for most in the league.
Only one outfield player has played every single minute of the campaign so far - Mallorca defender Valjent - joining ten goalkeepers who’ve achieved the same feat.
Three clubs have taken turns at the summit, with Barcelona leading after eight matchdays, Villarreal for one, and Real Madrid topping the table for ten matchdays.
