Jair set for Huesca homecoming as Eibar clear the decks
Portuguese defender Jair Amador looks poised for a return to Huesca after struggling for minutes at Eibar, where he's managed just four appearances this season.
The veteran Portuguese defender could be on his way back to familiar surroundings as negotiations for his Eibar exit gather pace.
Winter window warming up
Unlike last January when they were proper busy, Eibar have been taking the winter transfer window at a leisurely pace. The first fortnight passed without so much as a whisper from Ipurua, but things are starting to hot up now, and it’s outgoings rather than incomings that are making the headlines.
Jair Amador, the 36-year-old Portuguese centre-half, appears to be on the brink of returning to SD Huesca, the club where he first made his name in professional football before departing for Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Limited opportunities
The defender only arrived at Eibar last August as a replacement for Carrillo (who, in a bit of transfer musical chairs, went to Huesca). Manager San José was after someone to add some height to his backline, but the Portuguese has found himself well down the pecking order:
- Just 208 minutes played across 4 matches
- Behind Arbilla, Marco Moreno and Arambarri in the defensive hierarchy
- Nolaskoain also provides cover at centre-back
With such limited playing time, it’s no surprise the veteran wants out. He’s at that stage of his career where regular football is more important than warming the bench, even at a club pushing for promotion.
What’s next for Eibar?
Should Jair complete his move back to Huesca – where he previously spent two seasons – Eibar would free up some salary cap space for potential reinforcements. The left-back position seems a priority area of concern, with neither Buta nor Arrillaga convincing San José, who’s resorted to playing Arbilla out of position.
The attacking department could also see some new faces before the window slams shut. But for now, all eyes are on Jair’s departure, which could be made official in the coming days as his Ipurua adventure looks set to end after just six months.
